  • This position is on the Long-Range Planning (LRP) team within the SP&A organization.
  • The Strategic Planning & Analysis (SP&A) organization contributes to the airline’s long-term profitability by supporting Alliances, Loyalty, Network, RM, Sales and others through rigorous planning and forecasting of critical assets and resulting capacity and revenue, action-oriented analytics of critical commercial areas, and effective coordination of cross-functional initiatives and implementation of our partnerships.
  • LRP is a high-visibility, high-impact team responsible for shaping and influencing the airline’s commercial strategy and integrating the airline’s complex planning between 1 month and 5 years into the future; this includes forecasting capacity across American’s global network, and translating capacity, pricing and competitive trends into forecasts of system revenue.
  • Members of the LRP team execute complex, multifaceted enterprise commercial strategies and communicate them at all levels within the company and collaborate with partners across and outside the Revenue Division to plan for the future of the airline, including ensuring the people, aircraft and infrastructure are in place to maximize profitability.

What you'll do

  • Apply rigorous data analysis and modeling (using Excel, Tableau and other tools) to transform complex information into actionable business intelligence that assists management in financial and strategic decision-making 
  • Track and forecast revenue, evaluate business performance and identify opportunities for long-term profitability improvement
  • Create meaning from disparate data derived from various sources, including booking activity, revenue intakes, pricing actions, network and capacity changes, fleet adjustments, market and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic fundamentals 
  • Formulate and execute strategically critical, cross-functional commercial initiatives that shape the airline’s schedule and pricing, and the customer experience
  • Apply knowledge of airline network structure and industry trends to assist Network Planning and Revenue Management in building a more profitable airline, including analyzing revenue impacts of fleet and infrastructure investments
  • Develop high-level presentation and communication materials for senior leadership in support of board meetings, quarterly earnings and other public and internal communications
  • Coordinate closely with other groups including Network Planning, Revenue Management, Finance, Sales, Marketing and various operational groups to report revenue performance and forecast forward revenue, load factor and booking trends
  • Perform validation of models to ensure adequacy, define data requirements, and gather and validate information, applying judgement and statistical tests 
  • Develop performance measurements and analytical tools to improve profitability and planning / forecasting processes 
  • Develop reports and proposals, such as market assessments, business plans, financial performance plans, network profitability plans, fleet plans, capital expenditure requests, etc.
  • Analyze data derived from various areas, such as booking activity, fleet analyses, market trends, ROI analyses, performance and budget analyses, profitability statistics, previous campaign results, site statistics, marketing efforts, revenue management, and pricing trends in order to devise strategies to increase revenue and profitability

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in airline Network Planning/Scheduling, Revenue Management, Airline Commercial Strategy or analytical field, or Master’s degree in a related field

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Knowledge of AirVision Schedule Manager
  • Rigorous data analysis experience with tools such as Excel, Tableau, SAS, SQL or other data analysis tools

  • Ability to leverage understanding of the airline business and commercial goals to draw insights, drive results, and create innovative solutions

  • Ability to perform in cross-functional groups with minimal supervision to drive outcomes which benefit the entire airline
  • Skilled at sharing knowledge to develop the expertise of the team as a whole
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
