  • The role is a part of the Revenue Management team within our Revenue Organization 
  • The Operations Research group is made up of three supporting the Yield Management, Pricing, and Ancillary functions within Revenue Management. You will solve complex problems facing American Airlines through quantitative analysis and analytical models to improve revenue performance. This opening is specific to the Ancillary team where you will build and improve pricing algorithms for American’s portfolio of ancillary products like Main Cabin Extra, Preferred Seats, Upgrades, and more!

What you'll do

  • Works within revenue management and various commercial groups to creatively solve business problems by understanding business processes and airline economics to identify and implement solutions that will drive revenue performance.
  • Defines and solves complex problems through quantitative analysis and analytical models, using operations research, statistics, predictive modeling, machine learning, and forecasting techniques.
  • Builds mathematical models, develops applications, and provides support to the business. Utilize statistical techniques including clustering, regression, and time series analysis to improve forecasting systems.
  • Participates in model design, prototype, model development, and model implementation.
  • Formulates hypotheses and design tests to support business. Leverages statistics to evaluate tests that will drive positive revenue decisions.
  • Able to structure and deliver professional presentations and communications around complex topics targeted to varied audiences.
  • Partners with Information Technology to implement prototype solutions and improve systems.
  • Collect, pull, and push data to Oracle, Teradata, and HDFS storage using SQL, Spark, and data analysis technologies.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • BS, MS in Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field
  • Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry are a plus
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, Java, or other relevant programming languages

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated aptitude for logical analysis, problem identification, and problem solving as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to use computer-based tools and programming languages to implement solutions is required.
  • Strong experience with Python, R, writing complex SQL queries, Big Data or experience with other data mining packages is a plus.
  • Able to perform data analysis, model building, and output testing using SAS, R, and Python.
  • Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry is a plus.
  • Willingness to show initiative and take ownership of job responsibilities.
