We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Manager, Accounting is responsible for day-to-day oversight and review of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Manage the Accounts Payable function to include timely and accurate payments to vendors; provide accounting support to USO staff; vendor relations; and ensuring compliance with 1099 reporting and other regulatory requirements.*

  • Manage the Accounts Receivable function for timely and accurate recognition of revenue to include invoicing and posting cash receipts; reconciling specified revenue accounts, and ensuring restricted funding is properly supported.*

  • Manage fixed asset ledger by tracking related account activity, preparing asset cards for assets to be placed into service, and coordinating with Regional Accounting Managers to retire assets, when necessary.

  • Participate in the monthly and annual close as needed. Develop and prepare monthly metrics for Accounting Operations.*

  • Manage the company's credit card program to including issuing new credit cards, terminating existing accounts, adjusting spending limits, training and coding based on direction from Director, Accounting Operations.*

  • Manage the accounting and review of documentation related global in-kind activity.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for Accounting Operations to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and other accounting functions to ensure compliance with company policy. Review best practices and automation options. Suggest, and lead implementation of, efficient and streamlined processes.

  • Lead, manage and mentor supporting accounting employees. Clerk staff. Perform assigned duties in the absence of Director, Accounting Operations.*

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications - minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors necessary to perform the job successfully. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

  • 5+ years work experience in a public or private accounting role, including 1+ years in a supervisory capacity. Relevant experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Basic knowledge of global accounting principles, practices, and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams. Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.

  • Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions including project management and budgeting.

  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.

  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and automated accounting systems. Experience with Great Plains preferred.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver's license.

  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO's mission.
