Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Assistant I for The School of Social Work. This position reports to the Assistant Business Manager for Sponsored Projects. The Accounting Assistant I provides independent accounting and budget support to faculty, Principal Investigators, and research staff. Responsibilities include: day to day accounting, purchasing, payroll, and bill payment functions; maintenance of financial records and accounts, monitoring accounts, reconciling payment to accounts and making appropriate adjustments; and preparing documents relating to grants including budgets, endorsements, sub-contracts and consulting agreements, financial reports and analysis, and other related material. In addition, provides assistance on miscellaneous accounting and administrative matters as needed.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in the development of budgets, and related material for proposal applications, under the general direction of the Grant Facilitator and Business Manager for Sponsored Programs. Interfaces with the Grant Facilitator, the Principal Investigator and the staff to assure that proposal budgets are compliant with the funder's guidelines.
Monitors project accounts to track expenses associated with research and administrative activities. Screens financial transactions to ensure accountability, conformity, and efficient use of funds. Reconciles payments and prepares adjustments as needed
Creates tracking system to monitor reporting requirements for all open grants and contracts.
Provides value to various administrative efforts and projects in the School's Business/HR Services office and for the centers that report to it.
Provides Principal Investigators and/or their designated representatives with regular project status reports. Investigates and resolves discrepancies in invoicing and other account charges.

Prefer degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting.
Prefer candidate to have completed Cornerstone, HCM , and Financial Systems training classes, as well as ECRT training.
Rutgers certifications programs including Business Certificate, Communicator's Certificate, Professional Work Skills are preferred, and successful candidate will be provided access and opportunities to take such programs.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and management abilities; proven problem solving and interpersonal skills with experience providing complex, confidential administrative support and accounting.
