We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Analyst-Privacy & Compliance.
Position Summary: In this role, the successful candidate under the direction of the Privacy Manager, assumes primary responsibility for the intake of allegations submitted through the Compliance and HIPAA/HITECH Helplines including the initial Investigation, response, escalation, and documentation of matters. The Analyst is also responsible for follow-up and resolution on exceptions identified through the Break the Glass, Friends & Family report reviews, and Exclusions tracking processes. The Privacy and Compliance Analyst provides support during the Annual Conflicts of Interest Disclosure process to answer questions and provide other support as needed. The Analyst collaborates with Managers and Directors in the Office of Internal Audit, Compliance and ERM to prepare internal reports and disclosures related to overpayments, exclusions, and allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse.
Performs other duties as assigned by Privacy Manager or Director of Corporate Compliance & Integrity.
Serves as a confidential point of contact for employees to communicate with management, obtain advice, or report compliance violations.
Responds to daily questions and concerns relating to general privacy and compliance including patient issues.
Serves as a liaison with agency representatives during the vendor disclosure process and follows-up as necessary. Works in cooperation with Legal, Finance, Real Estate, Environmental, and other departments as necessary to ensure that Vendex/Vendor Responsibility Questionnaire submissions are accurate, complete, and timely relative to obtaining city/state contracts.
Provide support to the Conflicts of Interest Team during the Annual Disclosure Process, including answering questions and guiding individuals through the disclosure process.
Reviews all potential exclusions from participation in federal and state health care programs, manages investigations, escalates any identified issues, and drafts timely documents for approval of voluntary disclosures to regulatory agencies as needed.
Manages the breach notification process under the direction of the Privacy Manager, as well as any internal/external call teams set up to address breaches, patient questions and complaints.
Conducts investigations into exceptions identified in the Epic Break the Glass and Friends & Family Audits in collaboration with Internal Audit. Follows-up and resolves any identified issues. Maintains documentation for all investigations and assists in preparing management summary reports. Coordinates with the appropriate Health Information Exchange Privacy Officials to investigate, document, and report breaches of patient privacy under the guidance of the Privacy Manager.
Provides support to the Privacy Manager in meeting federal and state authority requirements, including the Office for Civil Rights, regarding breach notification and follow-up on behalf of the Medical Center as well as updating and maintenance of Business Associate Agreements and HIPAA policies.
Prepares draft management reports regarding compliance investigations and progress for review by the Director and Privacy Manager.
Continuously improves the methodology (ies), policies and procedures to maintain appropriate documentation for all compliance and privacy investigation activities, including a detailed log of all allegations, information related to affected parties, investigation details, and risk assessments.
Assumes primary responsibility for the initial screening of, timely investigation and triaging of Compliance and HIPAA/HITECH matters for NYU Hospitals Center and NYU School of Medicine; ensures an efficient and transparent investigation process is in place. Coordinates with Legal, Human Resources, MCIT Security, Office of Public Affairs, Medical Center Security, Finance, and law enforcement, as required, during the investigation and notification processes. Works with Human Resources, and Hospital or School of Medicine leadership to develop effective, long-term, corrective action plans. Conducts thorough and comprehensive investigations of compliance violation allegations, including data gathering, analyses, interviews, and report writing under the direction of the Director of Corporate Compliance and Integrity (Director) and Privacy Manager.
Knowledge of HIPAA and general healthcare compliance laws and regulations.
3 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including conducting investigations, trainings.
Demonstrated excellence in investigation and auditing.
Time management and multi-tasking.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills, ability to work with all levels of management across all functional areas.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of HITECH and HIPAA, including breach notification protocol; 2-3 years of experience in compliance, investigations in the healthcare industry, client service functions; healthcare management experience; Health Care Compliance Certification and Privacy Certification; paralegal training; experience conducting investigations.
