Job Requisition Number: 23319. This position involves providing day-to-day consultation, training, instruction, trouble-shooting, problem-solving to the personal computer (including laptop) user for hardware, software, network and related computer systems and peripheral devices. Provides web documentation to end users. Ensures that adequate student staff are hired, trained, and scheduled for day to day operation of the Helpdesk. Assists the Computer User Support Group with recharge-based system administration of servers and workstations. Uses computer imaging and deployment systems to install Windows and Mac clients. Manages inventory of licensed software and loaner laptops, for use by the EECS community.
The Instructional and Research Information Systems (IRIS) organization in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) is responsible for the design, planning, deployment, and maintenance of all IT architecture, infrastructure, security, applications, and operational computing and networking for research, instructional, and administrative services within EECS Department. It serves these same roles for the Engineering Research Support Organization (ERSO), and the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) as well as other affiliated departments and groups within the College of Engineering (CoE). IRIS is comprised of an Instructional Support Group (ISG), a Computer User Support Group (CUSG), and an Infrastructure Development Support Group (IDSG).
This position is a member of the Computer User Support Group (CUSG). CUSG provides system administration and computing support for Faculty, Staff and Researchers in the EECS Department.
25% Provides server administration support to clients; assist with new account requests and password setting, and configuration of systems and software for access to departmental and campus systems; consult with users to assess and implement file structure needs and perform data migration.
20% Applies professional business/technical support concepts to provide workstation support to clients; plan and implement hardware and software upgrades; troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues.
20% Installs, configures and maintains computing tools and systems, provides preventative maintenance and upgrades for CUSG recharge customers.
10% Manages Helpdesk software loan inventory; manages Helpdesk sales and distribution of items such as approved network switches and product keys.
10% Provides troubleshooting and campus-wide support to enterprise systems. Tests systems and updates internal documentation.
5% Assist users with restore requests.
5% Keeps up to date with developments in the computing field by reading journals and technical magazines, contacting colleagues and attending conferences and seminars.
