CITRIS Foundry startups tackle complex challenges and market opportunities in industries ranging from cleantech to medical devices to consumer products and software.
Founded in 2013, the CITRIS Foundry has helped build 31 companies that have collectively raised over $30 million from sources including angel and venture capital investors, crowdfunding, and federal grants. Additionally, CITRIS Foundry companies have added more than $70 million to California?s economy through business activity and job creation.
The CITRIS Foundry typically accepts early-stage startups before they have raised money or chosen a go-to-market strategy and provides expert guidance and resources to navigate these critical steps. The program focuses on graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and recent alumni with deep technological expertise. Eligible participants are affiliated with UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, or UC San Francisco. Entrepreneurs benefit from the Foundry?s hands-on program which is carefully tailored to the needs of technology-driven startups coming out of an academic/research environment, and are usually led by first-time founders. The 12-month, immersive program is headquartered on the UC Berkeley campus and all managerial and administrative activities are housed here.
The CITRIS Foundry Program Manager is a versatile and experienced administrative professional who will play a key role in the expansion and success of this top-tier startup accelerator program. This is a new position that will grow the Foundry?s successful pilot program into a well-organized and scalable operation, with streamlined processes and procedures. The Program Manager applies their exceptional skills and judgement in program administration, internal operations, client services, event and meeting management, marketing communications, facilities coordination, and program evaluation. The position offers an opportunity to shape the future direction of the CITRIS Foundry accelerator program while cultivating a network of entrepreneurs, investors, industry mentors, and partner organizations from on- and off-campus.
The Program Manager serves as a key member of the CITRIS Foundry management team and reports directly to the CITRIS Foundry Operations Partner.
This position works in close collaboration with the CITRIS Foundry Partners, CITRIS Foundry Partnerships Lead, CITRIS Foundry Fellows, and CITRIS Foundry student assistants to accomplish the program?s mission and objectives. The Program Manager also coordinates with the Events, Communications, Facilities, A/V and Finance staff from CITRIS and the Banatao Institute, the parent organization of the CITRIS Foundry.
25% Program Administration: Plans and manages a range of administrative operations for the CITRIS Foundry startup accelerator spanning multiple University of California campuses.. Develops and improves the core administrative processes that support the program and its key stakeholders with a focus on application cycles, program delivery, and graduation. Ensures the effective implementation of CITRIS Foundry?s strategic plan through client services, relationship management, resource coordination, facilities, marketing, event production, budgeting, and program evaluation responsibilities.
20% Event and Meeting Management: Responsible for implementing event-based programming including annual Demo Days, semi-annual startup selection and Orientation, weekly Dealer Days, speaker series, and funder/partner engagement events. Coordinates high-profile meetings with potential partners, mentors, investors, and campus leaders. May work with events staff or students to achieve objectives.
15% Cohort Coordination: Implements a variety of on-boarding and off-boarding processes for each cohort of startups moving through the Foundry accelerator program. Responsible for streamlining and improving application management, onboarding paperwork, account access, distribution of funds, and graduation procedures to ensure a successful experience for program participants.
15% Marketing Communications: Plans annual marketing calendar and creates related collateral. Assists in the development of website content, event promotions, social media, newsletters, and correspondence with Foundry stakeholders. Manages contact databases and listservs. Builds relationships with key stakeholders and serves on relevant committees to represent the CITRIS Foundry program.
10% Startup Services: Coordinates and improves access to external program resources including legal, banking, computing, and multimedia service providers. Works with Foundry Fellows student lead to ensure successful recruitment, placement, and deliverables for the Fellows across multiple campus departments.
10% Facilities Access: Ensures an engaging and productive environment for CITRIS Foundry program participants. Manages collaborative workspace, coordinates access to facility and lab resources, identifies needs, and implements improvements.
5% Program Evaluation: Prepares, analyzes, and communicates key performance, financial, and client services metrics. Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports in conjunction with CITRIS Foundry Operations Partner to ensure effective and cost-efficient operations as the program scales in size.. Provides input for non-technical portions of grant and contract proposals. May prepare materials to assist with fundraising-related activities.********************************ONE YEAR CONTRACT POSITION******************************** ?Minimum 5 years of program or project management experience. ?Experience developing processes, procedures, and protocols to improve the operations of a new or existing program. ?Ability to assess diverse stakeholder needs and create appropriate solutions. ?Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail, including complex or technical content. ?High degree of professionalism when working with diverse constituencies to represent the organization. Ability to prioritize, pivot, and excel in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing startup environment. ?Knowledge of a variety of administrative operations activities such as events planning, budgeting, financial analysis, basic fundraising processes, short-and long-range planning, and human resources. ?Excellent interpersonal communication skills including verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills. ?Exceptional problem-solving and customer service skills. ?Demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship and one or more high-technology fields such as engineering, computer science, biotechnology, or other STEM disciplines. ?Background check is required. ?Bachelors degree in related area and/or 5 years of equivalent experience/training.
