Reporting to the Head of Digital Scholarship Services, the Avalon Community and Project Manager for the Avalon Media System will serve as the primary liaison to current and potential adopters of the product and act as a key advocate for non-technical and end users within the Samvera community. Serves as project manager on the IMLS National Leadership grant “Avalon Media System: Integrating audiovisual collections with research, digital preservation, and a sustainable developer community.” This position will contribute to the overall product strategy of the three pathways laid out for the future of Avalon, including the development of sustainability and service plans, and will be responsible for ensuring that the deliverables of the grant project are met.
This is a 2 year term position.
Travel required within North America for conferences and other project related activities. While subject to change, staff member will travel about every other month.
Serve as an advocate to the Samvera community of developers. Coordinates community development work with the larger Samvera Community including organizing Samvera Connect, the annual conference for Samvera users and developers; and develop a communication plan for key messages, project updates, and key decisions that will be used throughout the project.
Represent Avalon Media System at relevant meetings and conferences to advance the goals of the grant and the development of the product more generally. Travel to meetings to engage with users of the Avalon Media System
Interacts with project leadership to determine and document project objectives, scope, functional requirements, metrics, key performance indicators and stakeholders.
Administration and Performance
Coordinates work at the primary partners on the grant by visiting the teams at Northwestern University and Indiana University; and meet with vendors of Avalon Media System and subcontractors on the grant.
Responsible for customer relations to the Avalon Media System community of users for both the Software as a Service (SaaS) product, and the open source product to inform future development.
Seeks input from adopters and potential adopters to inform product development; develop and deliver educational and training materials in collaboration with the Avalon Media System Technical Lead; compile, maintain, and provide access to the technical documentation regarding the development of Avalon Media System; help validate draft specifications through independent implementations; and acting as an advocate for the user community, advance strategic conversations with partners, adopters, sponsors of Avalon Media System.
Ensure the deliverables on the project are completed according to the schedule outlined in the proposal.
Communicates project status, decisions, updates, revisions and changes to all stakeholders facilitating decision-making and project progress.
Develop and maintain project schedules, and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken including adjusting assignments as necessary to accommodate new issues, scope changes, new work estimates and/or resource availability constraints; manage the contracted technical work
Collaborate with project leadership to define project tasks, milestones, and deliverables that meet stated project objectives and conform to initiative methodology standards. Collaborates with technical lead to determine project timelines and scope, in cooperation with senior staff.
Administers and maintains organizational area’s project management tool, assists in planning, estimating and scheduling project work and supports monitoring and reporting of project progress.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
2 years’ experience working with repository technologies or digital asset management systems in the context of an academic library, archive, or museum.
Technical understanding of the Avalon community and media system.
