The purpose of your job position is to manage the Health Information Management Department, Records and Transcription Services for Wrangell Medical Center. The HIM Director serves as the records custodian for the facility and is the facility’s Privacy Officer. The HIM Director is directly responsible for training within the job scope of the HIM staff positions, and monitors patient charts, processes inpatient, short stay/observation, outpatient surgery and long-term care charts according to applicable criteria, and keeps all records as required. The HIM Director has oversight for retrieval of all records for physicians and other authorized persons, and performs miscellaneous duties pertaining to management of health records and associated correspondence.
The HIM Director serves on the EMR Committee, QI Committee, Compliance Committee and other committees as directed by the CEO. The HIM Director monitors the QI functions for the department, reporting to the QI Committee. Assist with new staff/providers in orientation regarding documentation within in our Health Information Management programs.
1. EDUCATION - Must possess a minimum of an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Health Information Management and Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association.
2. EXPERIENCE - Must have a minimum of three years' experience in managing a Health Information Management Department and in writing policies and procedures.
3. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: a. Knowledge of State and National laws governing records management, privacy and security regulations, CAH regulations, records retention, release of medical information standards, etc. b. Comfortable with using Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Outlook, Word) c. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language with excellent spelling and grammar skills. d. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, when circumstances warrant such action. e. Must be able to get along with other personnel, physicians, supervisory personnel, as well as the general public. f. Must have the integrity and ability to keep medical information contained in the records confidential. g. Must remain calm and level headed under stress and emergency situations. h. Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines consistently.
4. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
