The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Biostatistics. This position will contribute directly to the research, teaching and service mission of the Biostatistics program. Expertise in causal inference, design and analysis of observational studies, biostatistical aspects of data science and/or mining electronic health records is desirable. Participation in collaborative biomedical research and development of an independent research program will be integral components of career progression within the Department and College.
The UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health is currently the only nationally accredited college of public health in the state of Arizona. The College has active teaching, research and service programs. Faculty in the College collaborate with the College of Medicine, the University of Arizona Cancer Center, the Arizona Respiratory Center, the College of Pharmacy, Microbiology, Engineering, Mining, Institute of the Environment, Mexican American Studies, the Water Research and Resource Center, the School of Natural Resources, the College of Agriculture, and others. The College is an active partner in regional multi-disciplinary, community-based research projects addressing health issues relative to border communities and underserved indigenous populations.
The Department has 21 faculty in either the Epidemiology or Biostatistics discipline. Faculty engage in a broad range of research and are responsible for teaching students from a number of educational programs. The Biostatistics Program offers PhD, MS and MPH degrees. The Biostatistics Program, together with the Department of Mathematics, form the foundation of a thriving Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Statistics (GIDP). Biostatistics faculty are members of the GIDP which facilitates interaction among the statisticians throughout the campus.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach either graduate-level or undergraduate courses, and contribute to mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. The faculty member will also participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college and university service. In these and other ways, the faculty member will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity and expanding research collaborations.
