Position Summary The Track and Field full-time Assistant Instructor is to work under the director of the Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach to maintain and enhance the program's success as a regional and National contender and to carry that success into the classroom and beyond. This position will assist in the overall programs which will include recruitment of qualified and gifted student-athletes, assist in fund-raising and retention of student-athletes.

Minimum Classification Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of coaching experience
Public institution experience (NAIA, NCAA DII, or High School)

Duties Oversees recruitment and selection of 80+ student-athletes specifically for Track and Field; ensures compliance with NAIA recruiting rules and regulations; initiates process for determining academic eligibility with Track and Field Athletes. Works with Admissions to determine financial need and access to both need and merit based scholarships for Track and Field student-athletes. Percent of total time 20
Duties Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions in and out of season, as permitted by NAIA rules and regulations. Develops and implements strategies for motivating student athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team. Oversees conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with Head Athletic Trainer to ensure that student athletes are physically prepared for competition. Teaches/grades up to three credits of PEA Track and Field and conditioning courses. enforcing policies and procedures, and recommend improvements and modifications. Percent of total time 20
Duties Initiates and monitors eligibility status for all Track and Field athletes within the department as well as through PLAYNAIA. Promotes the academic progress of student athletes, through grade and attendance monitoring, setting team and individual goals, and emphasis on retention through graduation. Percent of total time 10
Duties Helps submit Track and Field annual budget requests. Manages the Track and Field program within the framework of a balanced budget. Develops a competitive event schedule, in conjunction with the Athletic Director and Head Cross/Track Coach that fits within travel budget. Oversees selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment, to include uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies. Conducts fundraising activities for Track and field and assists with approved Departmental fundraising activities as requested. Percent of total time 10
Duties Supervises assigned part-time assistant coaches and other support staff to ensure compliance to applicable rules, policies and procedures; provides orientation, training and guidance as needed; conducts performance evaluations. Percent of total time 10
Duties Ensures that team travel arrangements are in compliance with SOU, CCC and NAIA rules and regulations. This includes monitoring development of travel itineraries and coordination of travel plans through the program assistant for all Track and Field travel. Percent of total time 10
Duties Develops and publishes Track and Field team rules regarding appearance, practice, class attendance, punctuality, dress code and general standard of behavior, with approval of Head Cross and Track coach and Athletic Director. Enforces such team rules with appropriate disciplinary action. Ensures safety of student athlete and coaching staff through careful monitoring of the condition of athletics equipment and facilities utilized by designated event; submits requests for repair, maintenance and improvement of facilities to Athletic Director, when appropriate Percent of total time 10
Duties Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the athletic program. This includes adhering to and enforcing all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of SOU, the CCC and the NAIA. Provides leadership and instruction on personal and athletic development of student-athletes. Includes counseling team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, when appropriate.
