Milwaukee Montessori School, a private independent day school, is seeking a full-time elementary Spanish teacher. Our world language program promotes intellectual curiosity, a love of discovery, and a passion for learning about other cultures and the world through access to materials and resources that celebrate the diversity of our global community. We are looking for a teacher who loves working with children and collaborates well with colleagues to inspire students to embrace language learning while developing cultural competence. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of language acquisition theory, best practice in language instruction, and best practice in technology integration.
Applicants should be excited about teaching in our integrated model and the partnerships between yourself and the classroom teachers. The Spanish Teacher should be outgoing, driven, and desiring a modern program which marries technology with traditional practices. At the core, the Spanish Teacher works to build confident learners able to engage in conversational Spanish. Candidates should be able to lead the students in learning the Spanish language, Spanish-speaking cultures, and their histories and literature, through interactive and engaging lessons.
Prepare lessons for students in grades 1 – 3
Prepare students for the STAMP proficiency test reviewed by area high schools
Must be familiar with proficiency-oriented teaching and demonstrate a sound understanding of modern communicative approaches to language teaching
Positively engage with children and their families
Manage swaths of children effectively and with confidence
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrate general knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Must be comfortable with adaptive technology for conversational practice
Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments
Must take direction, be self-motivated, a strategic problem solver and able to multi-task
Strong interpersonal as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with all school faculty
Ability to mentor and coach students
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish is preferred. Near-native fluency in the language is required - an ability to read, write and converse in both English and Spanish. A minimum of three years of work experience with students is preferable. Montessori training or experience not necessary.
