Under general supervision of the Academic Personnel Manager and with work direction from the Human Resources Generalist, the Academic Personnel/Human Resources Assistant will be independently responsible for all personnel actions pertaining to Postdoctoral Scholars, Visiting Scholars, Visiting Graduate Students and Staff Volunteers in CSE.
The incumbent will advise faculty hosts and international visitors of appropriate appointment category and non-immigrant visa statuses, and will serve as a liaison between the department and International Center for visa and immigration matters. Will stay abreast of changes in law, immigration regulations, and University policies pertaining to visa eligibility as well as application processes established by the International Faculty and Scholars Office (IFSO).
The Academic Personnel/Human Resources Assistant will conduct new employee orientations for scholars and volunteers, and will be responsible for updating databases as needed. The incumbent may assist the Academic Personnel Manager and Human Resources Generalist with special projects as needed.
Occasional overtime and/or evenings/weekends may be required.

Demonstrated experience working in a university/academic/research institution.
Working knowledge of hiring policies and procedures. Working knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of immigration regulations and experience in the preparation and processing of visa applications.

Demonstrated excellent PC computer skills and well versed with a variety of software packages for word processing, spreadsheets and database management (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
Knowledge of email systems as a primary form of communication; accomplished skill at navigating the internet for information retrieval. Ability to use all standard office equipment (fax, copy machines, printers, etc.).
Proven ability to follow written and oral instructions, as well as analyze material and make recommendations for a particular course of action when no clear directives are provided.
