The Library is seeking applications for the position of Senior Library Specialist to work in the Integrated Technology Services department. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in the Integrated Technology Services department in support of the Libraryâ??s mission. Performs skilled tasks in support of web content for activities of the Library. Maintains currency and reliability of web content. The incumbent prepares and publishes web content using a variety of web publishing frameworks, including content management systems such as Wordpress and Drupal, and markup languages, such as HTML and CSS. The successful candidate assists supervisor, Library Web Manager, in developing, coordinating, modifying, proofreading, preparing, and publishing of graphic layouts and web content for the library, based on goals, audience, and user experience.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
â?? Works with supervisor and library staff to develop, maintain, and update web site and social media content with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and content strategy.
â?? Prepares and publishes web content using a variety of web publishing frameworks, including content management systems such as Wordpress and Drupal, and markup languages, such as HTML and CSS.
â?? Posts Library content for web-based delivery via standard content management and file transfer interfaces.
â?? Assists supervisor in developing, coordinating, modifying, proofreading, preparing, and publishing of graphic layouts and web content for the library, based on goals, audience, and user experience.
â?? Maintains the currency of Library-wide communication materials by posting news and updates via web sites, social networking, digital signage, and print media.
â?? Uses standard tools and best practices to check web pages for validity and accessibility compliance, and corrects or refers problems as necessary.
â?? Assists in the development and conducting of training and provides support for library staff on use of web publishing frameworks, guidelines, and content management systems.
â?? Trains and directs the work of student assistants.
â?? Performs related duties as required.
Library Web Manager, Brown University Library
Work independently under general direction; makes independent judgments and decisions within scope of library policies and procedures.
â?? Bachelorâ??s degree in Communications or a related field or equivalent experience
â?? Experience supporting administration of a content management system (e.g., Drupal, Wordpress)
â?? Computer skills, ability to use standard computer software packages
â?? Capacity to learn new technologies and systems necessary to maintain effective job performance
â?? Familiarity with print, web and/or video development desirable
â?? Oral, written, and visual communication skills
â?? Ability to interpret complicated instructions and use judgment within established procedures
â?? Ability to work without close supervision
â?? Ability to interact favorably with co-workers and library users
â?? Ability to perform detailed work accurately with reasonable speed
â?? Problem solving skills
â?? Good organization skills with excellent attention to detail
â?? Eyesight which permits close work
â?? Successful completion of a test may be required
