The Mining and Nuclear Engineering Department at Missouri S&T seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty opening in Mining Engineering with appointment at the assistant or associate professor level to start Spring 2018. The successful applicant will have an earned doctoral degree in a physical science or engineering field (engineering is preferred) with a proven background in mining related research. Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in rock mechanics, ground control, mineral reserve evaluation, mining related software, mine operations, and economics; however, other specializations will be considered.
Responsibilities will include research, teaching, advising and service. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong funded research program including supporting MS and PhD candidates. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level classes within the mining programs, and distance and extension courses as appropriate. The candidate will advise undergraduates as well as graduate students, and fill appropriate service roles. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This position will reside in S&T's Department of Mining and Nuclear Engineering, home of one of the nation's largest Mining Engineering programs. The department has 18 full-time faculty including 17 tenured or tenure-track professors and 1 full-time teaching faculty member. The Mining Engineering program is historically significant and recognized as a leader in education and research in Mining Engineering.
The department has over 350 undergraduate and graduate students in its Mining, Nuclear and Explosives Engineering disciplines both on campus and our expanding distance programs. The department operates a 19-acre experimental mine 1.5 miles from campus for research and teaching activities. Other research facilities associated with the department include a Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center with an associated Energetic Research Laboratory. Missouri S&T, established as the Missouri School of Mines in 1870, is a highly focused technological research university.
