The Research Collections & Preservation Consortium (RECAP) is a partnership of Princeton University, Columbia University, The New York Public Library and Associate Member Harvard University. ReCAP resides on the Plainsboro, NJ campus of Princeton University, and is the largest preservation repository in North America.
The facility encompasses seven shelving modules, with current accessions of over 14 million items; a 25,000 square foot processing center; and cold storage film vault. A courier service provides next business day delivery of requested items from the facility.
Alternative delivery options include electronic document delivery, Interlibrary Loan and Borrow Direct. ReCAP also offers a reading room for on-site consultation.
The shelving facility assistant will rotate daily among the various tasks listed below:
Unpack material from truck, assemble and label trays, sort material by size and place in appropriate sized trays, accession material into shelving facility, input material barcode in the inventory control systems and shelve material in shelving modules.
Use inventory control system to locate material in the shelving modules for retrieval requests. Retrieve then sort material for shipping. Use the inventory control system to discharge and record where material is shipped. Upon return check material into the inventory control system. The inventory control system will create a list to reshelve material to the appropriate location.
Interpret document delivery request. After retrieval - identify item, chapter, section, page sequence, to be digitally copied. Transmit request to user's email account. Assist with Interlibrary Loan retrieval and shipping. Upon return check into library's database and ReCAP's inventory control system then reshelve.
Perform duties as assigned, a schedule that might rotate to accommodate work demands.
Required to become certified in the proper use of an automated lift.
Regularly lift heavy loads of 40 lbs. and up to 60 lbs. on occasion.
Ability to work independently and in team environments, with rotating tasks.
Will be required to complete a pre-employmet physical.
High school diploma with 1-2 years of related work experience
General knowledge of basic computer operation
Experience should demonstrate good communication, organization, and excellent interpersonal relations skills.
References must indicate excellent attendance and punctuality.
Document warehouse environment or library experience preferred.
