The Math Center Coordinator is responsible for teaching courses in the Developmental Mathematics Program and overseeing developmental mathematics curriculum and pathways that lead to enhanced success in gateway math courses. This position also creates and implements ongoing training for mathematics tutors in content specific tutoring strategies.
- Teaches three sections (15 WLU) of developmental mathematics per year. - Provides support to the director with regard to campus leadership for Developmental Math Education, including curricular and pedagogical design, and recommends developmental math education policies and procedures - Engages in curriculum development and collaborates to create math pathways, including possible bridge programs or corequisite models of remediation, that lead to enhanced student success in gateway math courses - Acts as liaison with Math department to identify partnership opportunities - Trains all Math Center peer tutors in subject-specific tutoring strategies. - Provides ongoing training and development opportunities that meet CRLA certification requirements for subject-specific tutoring. - Uses assessment measures to inform decisions and make recommendations for program improvement. - Assists in creating ongoing reports to inform practice, especially as these activities relate to the Developmental Math Program and the Math Center. - Collaborates with campus partners and Math faculty to facilitate outreach efforts to ensure student success for all students in all math courses.
Supervisor Duties: - Actively engages in recruitment of new student employees; - Clearly defines performance expectations, ensures accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations; - Ensures student employees have necessary resources; - Oversees and directs the work of student employees; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues; - Promotes professional development opportunities; - Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement; - Communicates information to student staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community; - Takes corrective action in a timely manner; - Recognizes and rewards student employees for good performance; - Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results; - Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Master's Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field OR
Master's Degree with 5 years' experience in teaching mathematics at the undergraduate level
Experience working with diverse student populations
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Experience developing curriculum
College-level tutoring experience
Experience creating and providing training opportunities for student employees
Experience conducting assessment and using data to inform decision making
Working knowledge of MS Office programs and student database management systems
