Seeking an Emergency Physician qualified to diagnose, treat illnesses, conditions and injuries of Medicine (no trauma or peds) in this level 2 medical facility that cares for an average of 13,500 Veteran encounters annually. 12 hour shifts 7-7 or 10-10.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Properly document an appropriate medical history and physical examination, all medications administered, prescribed, and all treatment, test and procedures ordered.
Have the skill set necessary to perform typical emergency department procedures and react quickly and make decisions in an atmosphere of crisis.
Perform procedures such as lumbar punctures; sutures, etc.
Able to multi task and pay attention to detail.
Must provide proper care for multiple patients who may arrive in the Emergency Department with more than one life threatening situation.
In cases of severe acute trauma or illness, the Emergency Physician stabilizes the patient by administering medications and conducting surgical procedures that alleviate the medical crisis and prepare the patient for further treatment in a medical or surgical acute care unit.

Board certified/ eligible Internal or Family Medicine Physician with Emergency Medicine experience.
Current, full, and unrestricted medical license from any state, territory or commonwealth or District of Columbia in the United States
Maintain continuing medical education and required certifications, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an institution approved by the American Medical Colleges or the American Osteopathic Association
Board Certified Emergency Medicine trained Physician with the willingness to assist in establishing an E.D. academic affiliation/program with West Virginia University School of Medicine.

Federal Retirement Plan:
VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service.
