In this position, the OR/Sterile Processing Liaison coordinates and facilitates the case cart process to ensure timely delivery of case carts from Sterile Processing to the OR. Responsible for staging of carts for cases, managing turn overs, add-onâ??s and decontamination processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Environment of Care
Reviews the surgery schedule and ensure, together with the Clinical Supervisor, Leads & Sterile Processing Manager that all surgical procedures have an accurate case cart prior to the start of the case. Develop process to minimize the amount of time cart is pulled ahead of cases.
Keeps track of case flow during the day, monitor instrument needs, notify Sterile Processing associates in advance of any possible additional/emergent instrumentation needs.
Plans and coordinates all instrument turnarounds. Communicate to the surgical team all essential instrumentation information that may affect or delay surgical start time.
Works closely with OR Lead RNâ??s & Techs to ensure that preference cards remain accurate (with appropriate approval from Leads & Sterile Processing Manager).
Returns and restocks all unused sterile instruments to their appropriate location. Manages excess from rooms.
Maintains competency in all functions of the Sterile Processing Instrument Tech position and performs all the functions of the Sterile Processing Instrument Tech role as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supports information flow between OR Staff, Leads, physicians and Sterile Processing staff regarding new vendor trials and new devices as required.
Coordinates with Supply Chain on par levels in Center Core (satellite, Cysto, etc) and makes adjustments based on need,seasonality and other appropriate factors.
Maintains traffic patterns and adheres to infection control policies and procedures for Surgical and Anesthesia instruments and equipment
Prepares for potential emergencies. Assures emergency equipment and supplies are maintained and available at all times.
Manages non-stock inventory for the Center Core(satellite, Cysto, etc) (inventory not within Omni Cell).
Management of Resources
Assists with documentation of equipment and supplies consumed and assists as needed with accurate charging and inventory management.
Accesses Omni Cells for the purpose of restocking and other clerical functions as needed.
Maintains and documents controls for sterilizers, warmers and refrigeration units.
Collaborates with the OR Omnicell Coordinator to assure proper function, operation and tracking of the Omnicell units.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Previous work experience in OR, Sterile Processing, or in a position involving knowledge of OR workflow, procedures, instrumentation and supplies.
Knowledge of infection control and health & safety policies and procedures.
Able to operate washers/decontaminators, sterilizers,etc.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task projects.
