POSITION OVERVIEW: The Building & Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the second shift custodial team working at Coffman Memorial Union and the West Bank Skyway. A hiring offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. Work hours are Monday-Friday 3:00-11:30 pm. Position requires some flexibility in schedule for occasional meetings and events outside of regular shift.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervises the work of three Building and Grounds Workers. Plans, schedules, and assigns work routines designed to allow for safe and convenient access to buildings, efficient operation, and essential building services. • Coordinates with departmental administrators to arrange for custodial service in areas requiring use of physical facilities such as conference rooms, event spaces, corridors, restrooms, lounges, etc. • Trains and advises Building and Grounds Workers and Student Employees in work methods, safety practices, and supply procedures. • Inspects work in progress and completed jobs to ensure compliance with custodial maintenance standards and approved safety practices using custodial operations software. • Inspects and communicates deficiencies of floors, furnishings, furniture, etc. to Facilities Manager. • Prepares custodial shift status reports. Takes periodic inventory of physical facilities. Makes written and oral reports. Notifies supervisor immediately in event of serious emergency such as fire or accident and takes a lead role in the instances of a building emergency. • Ensure enforcement of SUA and University policies and procedures. • Keeps time records for Building and Grounds Workers and Student Employees. Plans vacation schedules. • Coordinates set-up for events with the Events and Conferences staff.
SUPERVISION: Positions in this classification have the authority to perform or to effectively recommend the following actions: hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, direct the work of other employees, and adjust grievances.
QUALIFICAITONS: Required qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree plus at least 4 years of experience, or a combination of related education and experience to equal eight years. ** An offer of employment is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. **
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience. Experience working in a conference and events center or multi-use facility preferred. Some experience leading combined set-up and custodial staff. Working knowledge of computers with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and the internet. Experience with EMS Enterprise or similar event software and ability to read and understand room set-up diagrams.
