This position oversees all aspects of the sports medicine program. Uses independent judgment to administer, counsel, and provide sport medicine coverage to the athletes, athletic practices, games, matches and various activities. The head athletic trainer is responsible for daily scheduling and identifying the needs of the CWU intercollegiate athletes and the Athletic Department regarding sports medicine.
Administer Sports Medicine Program: - Maintain coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medicine program - Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program - Maintain overall sports medicine program including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling. - Assist Athletic Administration in the development of the sports medicine program budget - Oversee inventory, bid process, ordering, stocking and maintaining all supplies and equipment - Maintain recordkeeping and documentation for all administrative and student-athlete medical and insurance records - Ensure that adequate coverage of staff is available for summer camps - Administer the mandatory NCAA drug testing program, supply annual drug-testing calendar to NCAA and host drug testing crew during random testing visit to campus (this is annual and as-needed) - Administer CWU drug testing policy - Ensure that all guidelines, policies and procedures are followed - Administer injury related services up to and including assessment, treatment, and counseling to all student athletes during practices and games such as taping and rehabilitation using sport medicine prevention techniques. - Manage a rehabilitation program for athletic injuries. - Refer and monitor student athlete's progress when referred to other facilities including communicating with physicians about rehabilitation and treatment of student-athlete injuries and coordinating and scheduling physical exams and medical referrals to determine ability of athletes to practice and compete. - Communicate and collaborate with other departments in athletics regarding student-athlete welfare - Enter and track injury and treatment records of the student-athletes using injury monitoring system software. - Serve as a point of contact for the Student Medical and Counseling Clinic to refer students for health related injuries, counseling services, and game coverage - Management of the athletic training room, including equipment maintenance and cleanliness. - Supervise, educate and develop staff and graduate assistants
Practice/Games: - Coordinate staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions. - Travel with teams to seasonal events and provide athletic medical coverage/training. - Assist with setup for athletic events including whatever is needed for visiting teams. - Communicate with conference and non-conference schools regarding medical coverage at athletic events. - Student Athlete Insurance: - Assist in coordinating medical insurance requirements, insurance claims processing, billing and filing. - Maintain contact with providers regarding student athlete insurance claims and athletics secondary insurance holder.

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field and experience in a collegiate Division I, II or III program OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and AED/CPR certification (Professional Rescuer or BLS).• Washington State Athletic Training Licensure prior to first day of employment.
Excellent verbal and written skills including the ability to interact with a diverse department, coaching staffs and university constituencies.
Experience providing physical therapy modalities and upholding treatment protocols Ability to implement rehabilitation and manual therapy.
Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Sports Injury Monitoring System (SIMS) in order to track injury and treatment records of the student-athletes.
Must have the ability to lift upwards of 50lbs (some assistance may be available).
Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
Experience at a collegiate institution.

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Working Conditions: Work is completed in indoor and outdoor environments and may have exposure to inclement weather including but not limited to the training room, gym, office, weight room, practices and competition fields. Work hours vary by sport season which will include weekends and evenings. Sports travel required with seasonal events. Perform various mobility movements to accommodate student injuries. May have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
