The Health Sciences Core Facility will provide faculty and external academic, government, industry and medical partners with access to the infrastructure and expertise necessary to advance research in the health sciences in such areas as cell biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences and neuroscience.
The Health Sciences Core Facility Manager will oversee the Health Sciences Core Facility, a 4,000 sq. ft. modern life sciences multi-user facility on the Binghamton University campus. Reporting to the Analytical and Diagnostics Laboratory (ADL) Director, the Manager will conduct day-to-day activities to ensure the lab mission and priorities are accomplished. The Manager will work with the Health Sciences Core Facility User Committee to establish policies and procedures governing the use of the Facility. The Manager will have responsibility for the specific instruments in the Facility, training users and providing research support to faculty, staff and students. Facility instrumentation will include: Leica SP5 LSM; FACS Aria Cell Sorter; DNA Sequencers, Zeiss Multi-photon LSM, and additional Bio-core tools as they come online.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee implementation of policies, procedures and user access for Facility
Work with faculty, staff, students and external partners to ensure safe and efficient use of the Facility
Serve as specific lead instrument manager:
Training new users on tools within this instrument set
Maintaining instruments and supplies to support operational needs
Verifying all new users receive any required safety training pertinent to their activities
Acting as expert instrument operator when requested by industrial or other lab users
Provide support to faculty and graduate students on specific research projects
Coordinate on-line scheduling and billing with ADL staff
Serve as a member of Health Sciences Core User Committee
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in a health sciences related field
Three to five years of experience in a health sciences core and/or in a laboratory technical role
Experience with life sciences instrumentation
Experience in microbiological and cell culture methods
Experience working with live cells
Experience in lab management
Expertise in confocal microscopy and flow cytometry
Experience in fluorescent labeling and/or fluorescent imaging of live cells
