Undergraduate students choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and 36 academic programs. The Ramapo Explorers-STEAM Middle School Academic Camp temporary instructors report to the Assistant Vice President for the Center for Innovative and Professional Learning (CIPL). Duties include curriculum development and implementation for an enriching hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) topic to be taught in 50-minute classes over a two-week period (M-F) in the summer. (Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment with no fee paid to the instructor). The specific time slot(s) within the two-week schedule per session is developed by CIPL in collaboration with instructor availability. Instructors participate in Information Sessions to support recruitment of students for the camp that are scheduled during the spring term. Maintains communication with the AVP as requested during the scheduled courses. Supported by trained college-age counselors in the classroom.
1. Develops challenging and hands-on STEAM topic curriculum for middle school students entering 7th & 8th grades to enhance skills in critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork
2. Provides written daily curriculum/program description(s) and biography as per requested deadlines
3. Implements/presents approved STEAM topic curriculum within specified schedule
4. Participates in scheduled one-hour Information Sessions to support recruitment of students for the camp
5. Other duties as arise
A Bachelor's degree and teacher certification. Three years of related teaching experience may substitute for lack of teacher certification.
Teaching and/or work experience related to the STEAM topic to be taught. Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience required.
Requires excellent one-on-one and group presentation and facilitation skills that exhibit excellent verbal/written communication skills, ethical and sound professional judgment, and a commitment to quality instruction that is sensitive to the needs of individual and diverse students. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively and efficiently in English, to spell correctly, and to use correct sentence and paragraph structure. Ability to use various presentation media.
