This is a full-time, Unclassified, AFT position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) and have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. However, unusual requirements for additional work time by these employees may be compensated by allowing roughly comparable amounts of time off, provided prior approval is given by the supervisor and Unit Head. This is a temporary one-year position.

Undergraduate students choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and 36 academic programs. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Academic Advisement, Academic Advisors are responsible for advisement caseload and the development and implementation of retention and outreach programs. The academic advisors also participate in new student orientation, new student programs and other student success initiatives.
Maintain Caseload of students (first-year, designated populations, first semester transfers and all undeclared students) as assigned by the Associate Director/Assistant Vice President of Student Success providing them with accurate and timely academic advisement that includes General Education, school core, major/minor requirements and academic policies;
Advise students on a walk-in basis related to college policies and curriculum and student needs. Assist students with understanding College policies and procedures;
Work closely with the Peer Advisors to ensure that the Front Office information regarding advisement, college policies and practice are known and communicated clearly to faculty, staff and students.
Participate in the development and distribution of the Appreciative Advisement Survey and/or survey of advising services to First-Year Advisees and other students served by the Center for Student Success.
Participate on committees as determined with supervisor;
Learn and actively use designated technology to set-up appointments, take notes, outreach and generate reports;
Participate in new student orientation program for first-year/transfers/readmits and their families;
Deliver retention services/meetings/programs/strategies for students identified as academically at-risk;
Keeps abreast of and communicate policies and procedures of Student Success, the College Catalog and the College, which include changes in curriculum, academic requirements, and exceptions to the requirements;
Serve as a liaison to the school/programs as appointed by the Associate Director/Assistant Vice President of Student Success
Counsel students who do not meet academic standards of the College and readmit/reinstate students who do not meet the minimum 2.0 GPA;
Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus to ensure that the needs of assigned students are known and addressed;
Communicate academic policies and procedures to students and the campus community;
Attend and participate in Academic Advisement, Student Success and Enrollment Management Student Affairs trainings and/or meetings;
Develop additional advisement literature, forms, or materials as needed;
Stay abreast of current trends and issues with academic advisement and involved with professional associations and participate in professional development activities;
Participate in College-wide events, such as Commencement, Opening Convocation, Founders' Day and others;
Other duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree supplemented by a Master's degree in a field related to the position as determined by the appointing authority.
EXPERIENCE Two years professional experience in an institution of higher education or in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
