SciMetrika is a public health consulting firm whose mission is to provide innovative scientific, technical, and logistical solutions that advance human health. We serve federal, state, and local agencies, commercial companies, educational institutions and private research organizations. We are currently seeking a Surveillance Coordinator to provide assistance to the Indian Health Service Division of Epidemiology and Disease Prevention (DEDP). This individual will be based at a client site in Rockville, MD.
The ideal candidate has an applied epidemiology background, experience with infectious diseases surveillance and outbreak investigations particularly in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), HIV and Hepatitis, and has good quantitative skills.
Assist with gathering data and reporting STD, HIV, Hepatitis and other infectious disease trends in American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs)
Optimize utilization of STD data sources internal and external to IHS and create new STD surveillance methods and databases
Investigate and coordinate outbreak response in Indian Country
Develop and distribute of AI/AN-specific STD educational materials for public and medical providers
Develop and implement scalable approaches for effective STD/HIV/Hepatitis/TB prevention interventions for AI/AN populations that reach those at greatest risk
Evaluate existing STD interventions to assess their impact on improving health outcomes and redirect resources to the most effective programs. Develop and implement new STD interventions to develop standard performance measures
Provide support in integration of STD, HIV/AIDS, TB and hepatitis prevention and control activities
Increase access and support to up-to-date STD training for clinicians and public health professionals
Develop partnerships with public, private, and federal agencies involved in the health care of AI/ANs
Participate in national forums, workshops and roundtables on behalf of IHS DEDP
PhD required in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Biomedical Sciences or related field and 7+ years of experience
Minimum of 6 years of experience with infectious disease epidemiology including work experience with STDs, HIV, Hepatitis and TB
Minimum of 5 years experience working directly with State/Local/Tribal Health Departments; Experience working with tribes and tribal organizations is highly desired
Government contracting experience required; IHS, CDC or other HHS experience preferred
Strong publication record including presentations in national/international conference
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
