The College of the Holy Cross is seeking applications from law school students for the role of Summer Intern (June - August), Title IX and Nondiscrimination Projects. The Office of the Director of Title IX Initiatives (www.holycross.edu/sexual-respect-and-title-ix/office-director-title-ix-initiatives) manages and processes all complaints of violations of the College's Sexual Misconduct Policy. It is also engaged in policy, education and prevention work. The office is dedicated to a fair and impartial process for all participants. It does not provide advocacy services. We are looking for a law student who is highly motivated and interested in learning about the reality of the application of laws impacting institutions of higher education and related to discrimination and harassment based on protected class, including, hate crimes, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence (Title IX/Clery/VAWA/ADA/Section 504/Title VII/ADEA). Prior experience with, or education related to, these laws is not required; motivation and curiosity are.
Together with the office staff, the Summer Intern will learn about the various relevant laws, what they require and what application of these laws actually means and looks like. The Summer Intern will use case law, Federal & State laws and government guidance to assist the Director with programming, policy and case management.
The Summer Intern's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
Becoming well-versed in Title IX/Clery/VAWA/Americans with Disabilities Act/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act/Title VI of the Civil Rights Act/ADEA, and other applicable laws
Plan, identify and develop prevention programming related to the Sexual Misconduct Policy with other stakeholders
Assist with case processing and management
Assist with department file maintenance
Assist with Policy review and revision
Interface with parties to the process and community members
Develop and present educational programming
Assist with preparation of the Annual Safety Report (Clery Act/VAWA)
Stay up to date with, and provide written summaries of, applicable case law and recent resolution agreements between colleges and the Office for Civil Rights
Assist Title IX and Non-Discrimination Investigator with work related to investigations
