The Patient Care Coordinator is a supportive position that is part of a multi-disciplinary care team that jointly cares for patients who are in treatment at The Ohio State University's College of Dentistry and The James Comprehensive Cancer Center. The role is focused on the following:
Serves as a professional inter-institutional liaison to assist patients in accessing the most appropriate and timely care; Collaborates in the management of multi-disciplinary evaluations, treatments, and follow-up care of patients.
7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include lifting of supplies, equipment; extensive bending, standing, walking, sitting may be required. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to significant work pace/pressure. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Dentist or Registered Dental Hygienist from a CoDA approved training site; at least five years of dental clinical experience and at least three years within a prosthodontics practice setting; proficiency in working within and an appreciation for the complexities of institutional protocols that have an impact on the access and delivery of multi-disciplinary care; implant case planning and reconstruction that involves multi-disciplinary coordination; an understanding of timing aspects of dental procedures; using dental knowledge as it relates to medicine to know when critical expediting of procedures may be needed for optimal care; understanding resources in various departments to implement patient care; demonstrates excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and has the capacity to provide information and education effectively to patients, families and caregivers with a commitment to the provision of patient-centered health care; possesses superior organizational skills and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, meet deadlines with proven ability to work both autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team environment; knowledge of and facility with electronic health record systems used to record and store clinical information, as well as the ability and willingness to learn new programs; ability to prioritize, multitask, and cope with complex, high volume, and varied workload responsibilities; and demonstrates well-developed and successfully applied critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
Working knowledge of hospital dentistry administrative and operational processes; familiarity with and experience in the implementation of standard procedures from a dental care of cancer patients; familiarity with the practice profiles of the various members of the multi-disciplinary team; ability to assist in the development, refinement, implementation, and evaluation of patient care protocols; evidence of flexibility and adaptability while also embracing change in an evolving practice environment; experience in operations within a health care setting; and demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement.
