This position provides accessible and effective academic advisement for all upper classmen in the College of Nursing through the advisement or referral of students and prospective students in areas of college admission and readmission, professional concerns, housing, financial aid, student services, degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, major options, and career and educational goals. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns and determining possible courses of action; reviewing degree plans with students; advising students based on their major and academic backgrounds; instructing students in the requirements of their selected majors and classes using instruments such as Career Cruising, Holland Self-Directed Search, MBTI, etc. to assist students in assessing their interests, strengths, learning/study styles, etc.; monitoring the progress of students utilizing Teacher Progress Reports as necessary; instructing students requiring Developmental Education about the TSI plan and its requirements; and providing students with information concerning academic support services. The successful candidate will also participate in recruitment and orientation activities such as Panther Land Day, the Major's Fair, Sneak Preview, school visits and career days, etc.; make follow ups with orientation and activity registrants; ensure students are listed in the correct major and verify their TSI status; serve as the point of referral for support services for students; maintain updated knowledge of support resources both on and off campus; and work with the Freshman Advisor to assist freshman majors in a smooth transition to the College of Nursing.
Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field
Two years of related experience in advising and recruiting.
Valid driver's license.
Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in a related field
Preferred Experience Requirements:
Two or more years in advisement, social work, education or related field.
