The UWMC 6NE MEDICAL UNIT has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time (70%, Rotating/Variable) PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE OR PSS 2 (PSS). The 6NE PSS provides patient-focused care through the use of customer service strategies. Duties of the position include:
Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other medical center departments to facilitate patient care
Coordinate unit activities by acting as the communications center for the nursing unit.
Handle all unit paperwork, including chart maintenance and patient information, etc.
Triage telephone calls
Greet, check in, and check out patients
Access and enter information in computer programs
In addition, the PSS exercises independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of clerical duties, including:
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
Partner in the orientation and training of professional and support staff, nursing and medical students, and other Patient Service Specialists
Other duties as assigned
These responsibilities are often carried out simultaneously with constant interruption.
The Patient Services Specialist will be hired as either a 1-Trainee or a 2 depending on experience. The requirements are as follows:
PSS1: Requirements include high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience.
PSS2: Requirements include high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
