Our Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director Financial Aid and Recruiting. This individual reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
Recruiting (40%): Independently educate and provide interpretations to coaches and other staff members on rules and policies regarding prospect recruiting. Authorize prospect official visits and monitor all recruiting activity, both on and off-campus. Approve all institutional and non-institutional camps and clinics. Responsible for recruiting log audits throughout the year. Manage the permission to contact program and transfer release process. This position will provide education and counsel to prospective and current student-athletes and their parents regarding recruiting rules and policies. Serve as the main point of contact to the recruiting software entity for the department.
Financial Aid (40%): Independently administer and monitor all aspects of student-athlete financial aid, both athletic and non-athletic. Administer the National Letter of Intent program and post-eligible aid program. Research all sources of outside financial aid, ensuring individual and team aid amounts comply with NCAA regulations and limitations; responsible for all renewals and nonrenewal of aid and paying tuition on a quarterly basis. Assist with the books scholarship and room/board allotments procedures; main contact for current and prospective student-athletes, as well as their families, regarding student accounts, scholarships, and the administration of financial aid. This position works directly with student-athletes regarding housing issues, policies, selections, and arrangements. Assist with the resolution of financial issues and payments to student-accounts.
Amateurism, Awards and Benefits (10%): Work directly with coaches and other athletic staff members to ensure all awards and benefits that are provided to student-athletes meet all institutional, conference and NCAA rules including, but not limited to, occasional meals, banquets, letter awards and participation awards.
Education (10%): Independently create educational materials and organize in- person educational sessions for assigned sports. Create a timeline for educational efforts and timely materials. Work closely with other athletic department areas such as coaches, athletic training room, ticket office, business office, travel office, marketing office, representatives of athletic interest, and outside entities, with regards to compliance in the areas listed above. Work with campus entities including the financial aid office and UW Housing and Food Services.
This position requires highly specialized knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and how they integrate with institutional guidelines. Must be able to identify and resolve problems and issues in a timely manner using independent judgment and decision-making abilities. Assist with NCAA and Pacific-12 rules interpretations.
This position will work directly with ICA staff, coaches and student-athletes to promote a positive compliance environment and to establish and maintain programs and procedures to ensure compliance with University, Pacific-12 Conference, and NCAA regulations and federal and state law.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pacific-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related working experience. Applicant must have a working knowledge of NCAA regulations, NCAA Legislative Services Database, the NCAA Eligibility Center, CA and recruiting software programs. Familiarity with NAAC best practice standards and willingness to travel to professional conferences. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to assume a variety of independent responsibilities. Individual must be able to work under pressure in a busy and diverse environment handling confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Applicant must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and database applications.
Post-graduate degree desirable; background and experience in NCAA Education, Awards and Benefits, and Financial Aid.
