The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Clinical Associate. This is a non-faculty, senior staff position in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, working as an attending anesthesiologist providing anesthetic care to patients in the operating room with a medical staff appointment at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The Clinical Associate perform duties consistent with the area of practice and privileges, provide perioperative medical care. Manage patients during surgical and certain other medical procedures; including preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative evaluation and treatment. Direct resuscitation in the care of patients with cardiac or respiratory emergencies, including the need for artificial ventilation, pulmonary care, supervision of patients in post-anesthesia care units and critically ill patients in special care units. On call coverage may also be required. Case mix may include both general and specialty care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care: Provides patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective. Performs competently all medical and invasive procedures considered essential for area of practice.
Gathers essential and accurate information about patients to develop and carry out patient care plans. Makes informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient information and preferences, up-to-date scientific evidence and clinical judgment.
Documents care appropriately and completes medical records in a timely manner, including but not limited to, the timely and accurate preparation of billing forms, completion of patient notes detailing services provided and other documentation required by ACCM and Johns Hopkins Howard County General Hospital.
Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
Demonstrates an investigatory and analytical thinking approach to clinical situations. Knows and applies the basic and clinically supportive sciences appropriate to discipline.
Practice-Based Learning and Improvement: Able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care practices. Locates, appraises, and assimilates evidence from scientific studies related to patient's health problems.
Uses information technology to manage information, accesses on-line medical information and supports own continuing education. Facilitates the teaching and learning of students, CRNAs, and other health care professionals, and provides supervision as required.

Administrative Activities: May be asked to serve on at least one committee effort within the division and/or department.
M.D. Degree. Licensure by State of Maryland Board of Physicians. DEA Certification and Sate of Maryland Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) Certification. Credentialed at Johns Hopkins Hospital and related hospitals as necessary.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing and walking for extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.
