Candidates must be willing to travel daily within the assigned area. Position requires at least 90% of time away from office. The Home Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivery and set-up of home respiratory therapy equipment. Conducts patient and caregiver instruction and performs periodic follow-up visits. Primary Responsibilities:Receives orders for home respiratory equipment and delivers equipment to patients home or extended care facilities and completes necessary set-up procedures Instructs patients, caregivers and / or nursing staff in the proper use, disinfection, maintenance and safety of all equipment and supplies Performs respiratory assessments and oximetries when indicated and recommends appropriate equipment and services to physicians and nursing staff Assesses the home environment to include safety, storage facilities, cleanliness and ability to support the equipment (e.g. refrigeration, electricity) Conducts scheduled patient and equipment follow-up, including trouble-shooting and service calls Assists in maintaining inventory of respiratory supplies and equipmentProvides in-service education to staff on equipment operation, care and maintenance Performs on-call duties after normal work hours Plans and prepares written treatment plan for clinical respiratory patients based on evaluation of patient data in conjunction with the physician, patient and caregiver(s)Identifies and addresses barriers to desired outcomes Sets goals of therapy in conjunction with patient / caregiver(s) and physician and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment and outcomes of care, adjusting treatment as needed to achieve maximum benefit Coordinates care with physician and other disciplines or providers involved in patient's care. Plans for patient discharge Advises and consults with patients, caregivers and other staff members. Provides technical assistance with equipment as needed Documents patient interventions that reflect delivery of safe and high-quality home health care during the patient encounter. Turns in all documentation within 48 hours of the visit (visits performed on Thursday, Friday or Saturday are due on Monday) Documents all communications with the patient, family, physician, other disciplines, and appropriate others as indicated on communication notes Supervises Respiratory Therapy Technician(s) Participates in in-services and educational programs Demonstrates knowledge and observance of the Patient's Bill of Rights Follows all infection control, standard precautions, and safety guidelines / standards per agency policy
Required Qualifications:Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program and / or certification by the NBRC Currently licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Texas Maintains certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support Course C Familiarity with medical terminology and equipment Access to reliable transportation that will enable you to travel to client and / or patient sites within a designated area This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of diseasePreferred Qualifications:1 year clinical experience desired Bilingual (Spanish/English)Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry heavy respiratory equipment, weighing up to 75 pounds Ability to work in a stressful environment.
