The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is recruiting for Staff Psychiatrists to fill vacancies within our Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI)Teams. Joining our team allows you to work in a multidisciplinary multi team setting! As a member of this team you get to work half of the time in PCMHI and the other half of your time will be spent as part of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP).
PCMHI Duties: The incumbent is responsible for treating Veterans with more acute mental health issues. S/he works directly with Patient Aligned Care Teams to facilitate Veterans' primary care treatment. S/he provides immediate, direct and on-site access for psychiatric consultation, assessment and mental health treatment as clinically indicated. The incumbent works within a multidisciplinary team matrix, actively collaborates, and, at times, leads, a multidisciplinary clinical staff assigned to the Behavioral Health/Mental Health Clinics and coordinates Veteran care with other clinical and administrative supporting services. S/he provides evidence-based therapeutic interventions supported by the psychiatric community standards of care;implements and meets performance requirements for quality and timeliness of clinical care; employs recover-oriented interventions; and successfully completed other clinical duties as assigned. S/heparticipates in the internal student training program.
BHIP Duties: The incumbent is responsible for treating Veterans with more chronic mental health issues. S/he provides immediate, direct and on-site access for psychiatric consultation, assessment and mental health treatment as clinically indicated. S/he also provides coverage for the same day walk-in outpatient clinic and is responsible for responding to referrals from the Inpatient Medical Units. The incumbent works within a multidisciplinary team matrix, actively collaborates, and, at times, leads, a multidisciplinary clinical staff assigned to the Behavioral Health/Mental Health Clinics, and coordinates Veteran care with other clinical and administrative supporting services. S/he provides evidence-based therapeutic interventions supported by the psychiatric community standards of care; implements and meets performance requirements for quality and timeliness of clinical care; employs recovery-oriented interventions; and successfully completes other clinical duties as assigned. S/he participates in the internal student training program.
Work Schedule: Various (This position may required to work nights, weekends,holidays and extended shifts as necessary) Candidate will be required to provide on-call duties.
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:The work is sedentary in nature with a great deal of work in an office, working at a computer monitor and keyboard, answering phones, using tele/video monitor, prolonged sitting, and interacting with patients. Some physical exertion is required and includes but not limited to: traveling to various clinical activities, minimal lifting, and walking up and down stairs.
