Bullis, an independent, co-educational college preparatory day school, seeks a progressive financial innovator to serve as full-time Controller. The Controller is responsible for directing the accounting function of the school and managing day-to-day activities of the accounting staff. Primary responsibilities include ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory and legal requirements; ensuring accurate completion of monthly reports, tax returns, annual audits, and state/federal filing requirements; creating new policies and revising existing policies for school operations; and managing accounts and records for the school. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Automate the accounting, banking and financial reporting processes
Record and process of all accounting entries. Manage the A/P, A/R functions. Revamp the chart of accounts and custodial accounts.
Manage accounting staff and provide day-to-day motivation, guidance, training and support.
Review and approve general ledger account information, journal entries, fixed asset and depreciation schedules, and inventory reconciliations
Manage all school cash needs and requirements, including monitoring of bank balances, transferring funds, and administering banking portal
Take lead on year-end close of school’s books, annual audit, and other required financial reporting
Administer 401k plan, including loan approval, withdrawal requests, and sitting on 401k committee
Assist the CFO in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets and forecasts working with other administrators and department heads concerning budget performance
A Master’s degree in Business Management or related field (or substantial equivalent experience) is required, with CPA certification required. Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller/Business Manager role preferred. Audit/Accounting experience with education and/or not-for-profits preferred. Strong technology skills and excellent customer service required.
