The Better Government Association (BGA) seeks a full-time Individual Gifts Coordinator who will oversee individual giving. The primary role of the Individual Giving Coordinator is to increase individual donor gifts and to support a variety of development activities. This person will identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from new individual donors and nurture and encourage existing donors. He/she will work closely with other staff to create and fulfill the donor experience, from acquisition of new donors to stewardship. Successful candidates will have demonstrated fundraising success and high-level organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
The Individual Gifts Coordinator will report to the Director of Development. The BGA is a nonprofit organization that combines investigative journalism, advocacy and civic engagement to promote better government in Illinois. Its office is located in downtown Chicago. This position requires full-time on-site attendance.

Work with Development Team to develop and execute individual cultivation and solicitation strategies that include email, social media, printed campaigns, events, donor meetings and planned giving.
Collaborate with Marketing Manager on the design and execution of strategies, and share in the tracking and analysis of key data around current and potential donors.
Cultivate, solicit and steward existing individual donors.
Encourage renewals and increased donor support.
Identify current donors with potential for increased and multi-year commitments.
Development rating, solicitation and stewardship strategies for individual giving at BGA.
Identify and solicit new prospective donors.
Communicate persuasively through emails, calls, meetings, written proposals and appeal letters.
Develop and execute an effective plan for donor acknowledgement, appreciation and recognition.
Participate in planning and staffing of fundraising events.
Responsible for day-to-day administration of Raiser’s Edge (RE) donor database. Use database to support development initiatives; pull lists, run queries, update/create fields and import/export data for mail merge and other functions.
Responsible for recording gifts thoroughly and accurately to ensure accurate processing of gifts and effective stewardship of donors.
Assist with the development and implementation of the Strategic Development Plan including annual appeals, major donors, grants, individual appeals and special events.
Work with Administration and Finance to ensure accurate processing of gifts.
Prepare financial progress reports and budgets for board, committee and staff meetings.
Represent BGA at civic engagement events and solicit donations.
Supervise part-time Development Assistant and interns when appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Three+ years of successful fundraising experience in individual gifts.
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, supported by ability to use technological tools, including donor databases, ideally Raiser’s Edge.
Experience with using digital tools — social media, websites, email systems, etc. — to execute campaigns.
Must be able to represent the BGA independently to potential donors and make compelling asks.
Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive appeals and reports.
Proven track record raising money from individuals.
Strong time management skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work well with a team, manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment.
Critical thinking, problem solving, accuracy, organization and attention to detail.
