The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IR), located in the Office of Academic Affairs, is responsible for: undertaking original studies and analyses to meet anticipated planning and management needs; Facilitating the distribution pertinent, timely, and high quality data to various academic and administrative offices at UW Bothell and to external agencies; Collaborating with UW Bothell faculty and staff to create effective evaluation strategies, particularly in the areas of metrics, program evaluation, and survey research; and Supporting the development of institutional infrastructure grants
Our Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness has an outstanding opportunity for a SQL Reporting Analyst.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the SQL Reporting Analyst will help support our campus infrastructure for operational reporting and responding to data needs for analysis. The analyst will be charged with working collaboratively with the IR team, the Office of Institutional Planning and Budget, IT, and stakeholders from across campus to ensure data quality and facilitate data access. The position will serve a central role in supporting analysis in areas strategic and operational planning, student success, and metric development.
Under guidance from the Senior Institutional Research Analyst, the SQL Reporting Analyst will develop and revise queries of UW data to support analytic projects led by the offices of IR and Institutional Planning and Budget. The initial focus is on providing data integrations that result in timely, high quality data, to support institutional research, retrospective analysis, and user interfaces that support decision making and improvement in mission-aligned areas.
The SQL Reporting Analyst will: Integrate and clean of data from a variety of sources and ensuring that agreed-upon definitions and processes are used. In some instances, the work may require supporting new or improved data collection processes.
Building original queries in SQL/R, transforming data, conducting data integrity procedures, and documenting both process and definitions.
This may also include some basic descriptive analysis in response to ad-hoc queries; descriptive reporting typically includes producing counts, groups, means and medians, and trends in response to requests to inform programmatic planning, accreditation, external reporting, and public communications.
Create, maintain, and improve internal and external reports to support decision-making and compliance. These may include dashboards, fact sheets, automated reports, and reports for federal/state/UW compliance. For candidates with applicable skills, there will be an opportunity to develop user-interfaces to interact with the data using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and SSRS.
Support the development and documentation of data models intended to serve UW Bothell.
Increase knowledge and skills related to reporting and data management, with the goal of increasing efficiency and improving the quality of existing work products.
A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Management Information Systems or a related field OR equivalent experience in a related field is required.
Work experience: 2 or more years of work experience focused on data retrieval and reporting that includes regular use of SQL at a high intermediate or advanced level (ability to write and refine queries against multiple data sources: joins, unions, null handling, subqueries, common table, indexes; can generate complex reports and able to tune existing queries) and working with imperfect data.
Two of the most important requirements for the position are a curious nature and a high level of self-motivation to explore new areas and gain an understanding of how things work. Candidate should be able to determine necessary questions and to listen to answers provided.

Experience working with data from the education sector
