The Department of Engineering Education (EngE) at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for general engineering instructors. Applications are invited from individuals dedicated to undergraduate teaching and student engagement. Candidates are sought with experience teaching and developing courses in engineering application of software tools (including CAD, spreadsheets, and/or computational programming) and/or experience in teaching problem solving, design, and professionalism at the freshman/sophomore level. Evidence of ability to contribute to emergent directions of the department, including design education, entrepreneurship, and global engineering, is welcome.
The openings are for up to two non-tenure track one year RESTRICTED faculty positions at the rank of Instructor or Professor of Practice. Responsibilities will include teaching of up to 12 credit hours per semester in general engineering or an equivalent combination of teaching and course development. Opportunities for supplemental summer teaching assignments are possible.
Qualifications for this position include either a Ph.D. in an engineering field or an M.S. in an engineering field coupled with substantial industry experience. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively teach engineering courses at the undergraduate level.

Masters in engineering or a closely-related field with substantial industrial experience, or PhD in engineering or closely related field. Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a team based environment.
Experience with engineering software and CAD programs typically used in first-year engineering programs such as MATLAB, Inventor, and Solidworks. Experience teaching first year engineering students. Experience developing curriculum for first-year engineering programs.
