Oversee, evaluate and establish effective Regional preventive maintenance programs. Introduce and utilize advanced network troubleshooting techniques and advanced complex user toolsets. Develop and oversee comprehensive metrics and reporting as directed by corporate and Regional management. Provide expert technical support to regional for successful execution of CLI, noise mitigation and PM efforts, in support of the corporate predictive maintenance initiative.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Issue written preventive maintenance plan by KMA with the objective of completing Phase I initial unity gain level setting, first pass forward and reverse sweep through all outside plant, CLI plant integrity, and standby power supply stabilization.
Develop predictive plant maintenance plan incorporating use of sophisticated tools in targeting network issues, including CPE telemetry accessed from the cable modem DOCSIS platform and Motorola (or other vendor) set top devices and roll out to KMAs
Oversee HFC Analysts’ activity in effective strategic troubleshooting through use of network tools and adherence to written preventive maintenance objectives
Assist in development of comprehensive metrics associated with both plant maintenance and whole house certification.
Develop reports and analysis reflecting plant readiness accomplishments and opportunities as requested.
Assist in the development and tracking of an effective and efficient regional noise mitigation program.
Assist Regional team in the development/execution of a written EOL (End of Life) plan/policy for plant equipment. Oversee EOL program and tracking procedures/data base. Work with Region HFC engineer and develop equipment evaluation techniques, replacement plan and sparing strategies.
Participate in the annual budgeting process and re-forecasting process in closely managing capital resources targeted for plant readiness improvements.
8 years engineering or technical experience
5 year plant/system maintenance experience
5 year project management experience
Advanced Knowledge of HFC, Advanced Video, and IP Networks
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to supervise and motivate others
Demonstrated understanding of preventive maintenance principles and balance between preventive and demand maintenance activities
High level working knowledge of network monitoring tools, including Remedy, HP Openview, Netcool, Micromuse, Charter Nodeslayer, Cisco Cable Manager, and similar
Understanding of DOCSIS principles, modem and set top box topology in accessing and utilizing telemetry data for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes
Ability to train field engineers in HFC network digital impairment characteristics, FEC, SNR, CPD, and other mechanical and electrical impairments and corrections
Demonstrated working experience in developing, reporting, and managing to agreed upon operational metrics
Engineering level expertise in cable HFC optical nodes, including optimization and certification, configuration, forward and reverse sweeping theoretical and practical activities
Expertise in plant mechanical and electrical integrity in terms of signal leakage and CLI
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience preferred
