St. Louis College of Pharmacy invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor in global history starting in August 2017. The successful candidate will teach Global Heritage I, II, and/or III during the fall and spring semesters to sophomore and junior level pre-pharmacy students. Global Heritage is an introductory interdisciplinary humanities and social science sequence that is presented within a world civilization context starting with pre-history to the present. The classes are taught during the day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule. Compensation is based on the number of sections taught and is commensurate with degree and experience.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness of your students in your assigned course(s). Compile, administer, and grade instruments that evaluate student progress with feedback and practice opportunities so that students may improve their performance.
In consultation with your Department Chair, prepare and distribute course materials to your students that have been approved by the Liberal Arts Department and the School of Arts & Sciences Curriculum Committee, most notably the course syllabus. The syllabus should inform your students about absences, testing, assignments, and grading policies.
Follow procedures related to the Registrar’s Office including grade reports and deadlines, mid-term reports, and the like.
Be accessible to your students through office hours, online, and by phone.
To succeed in this role you will need:
A Ph.D. in Global or World History, e.g. East Asia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and/or Latin America
Prior teaching experience is preferred.
Experience with classroom technology, especially Moodle or other Course Management System, and a commitment to active learning techniques are especially welcome.
