Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Assistant II for The Office of Grant and Contract Accounting (GCA). The Accounting Assistant II provides support to the Senior Manager, Grant and Contract Accounting. This individual assists with obtaining and reviewing financial documents and data for audits. In addition, the Accounting Assistant II also supports the unit by analyzing data and preparing financial reports, consistent with a basic understanding of the mission, vision, role and goals of GCA. The Accounting Assistant works under direct supervision, with specific instructions on routine or semi-routine work and within established work parameters for GCA; the work is usually reviewed upon completion.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs professional work requiring knowledge of general accounting principles and practices and the basic application and use of concepts, theories and terminology of accounting and grant/contract accounting.
Assists the Senior Manager with audit requests and other sponsor requests for information.
Obtains and reviews award agreements/files, requests and compiles supporting information.
Runs various financial reports, researches and analyzes information.
Communicates with GCA staff, principal investigators, unit staff and other Rutgers' units to request and obtain supporting information; ensures all supporting documents are complete and organized.
Assists GCA unit by performing analyses and reconciliations of award expenses to generate invoices and financial reports
Keeps up to date on University policies/procedures and research compliance.
Attends required internal / external training sessions.

Knowledge of Grant and Contract Administration and Rutgers University systems, policies and procedures is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires good communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) required.
The individual in this role must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
