Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Lab Technologist.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for culture identification and susceptibility of microbes isolated from clinical specimens and or antibody detection or other techniques. Retrieval and preparation of surveillance isolates for transport to molecular epidemiology laboratory(s) for sequencing and other studies. Perform , interpret and Report surveillance testing (Culture-based and/or PCR). Examples: MRSA , CRE , VRE and ERCP screening cultures. PCR for MSSA,MRSA,VRE and CRE. Retrieval of specimens requested for approved clinical research studies. Data processing, instrument operation & QC also required
Performs other duties as assigned.
Able to accurately interpret & record results of testing. Can differentiate normal & abnormal results. Reports promptly via computer or telephone. Reviews results & consults appropriate reference sources when needed. Consults with superiors to assist interpretation when necessary. Performs Quality Control measures to ensure accuracy of results.
Performs routine microbiological/immunological testing of specimens on technologist level. Checks specimens for accuracy and appropriate containers. Correctly subcultures to specific media for optimal recovery of microbes. Possesses ability to identify presence of microbes by culture, antibody or other means. Possesses ability to perform antibiotic susceptibilities if applicable.
Retrieval and preparation of surveillance isolates for transport to molecular epidemiology laboratory(s) for sequencing and other studies. Perform , interpret and Report surveillance testing (Culture-based and/or PCR). Examples: MRSA , CRE , VRE and ERCP screening cultures. PCR for MSSA,MRSA,VRE and CRE. Organism cultivation, preservation, storage and archiving.Use LIS and Tube Tracker in support of above duties.
Retrieval of specimens requested for approved clinical research studies.Identification and susceptibility testing of isolates for strain-type verification when necessary.Maintain transport log records (Excel).
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physical Sciences from an accredited college or university with one year of clinical laboratory experience (completion of an internship program at a qualified institution is acceptable) and a license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the State of New York based on the on the Special Provision of the Regulations of the Commissioner in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Technology Practice Act.
Required Licenses: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS
Preferred Qualifications: MLS (ASCP). One to Two years of Microbiology experience.
