The Executive Director of Student Involvement provides administrative leadership for developing and enhancing programs, activities, events, and special co-curricular programs that promote student engagement on campus for all students, and supervision for Student Union Operations, University Recreation Center, Center for Leadership and Community Engagement and CWU Westside centers. This position advises, counsels, and serves as consultant to the Associated Students of Central Washington University (ASCWU) Student Government and its agencies, councils, and committees in concert with the Dean of Student Success.
- Advise, counsel, and serve as the direct advisor according to the ASCWU Constitution for the ASCWU and its agencies, organizations and committees, (i.e. Council of Probity, Election Commission, Office of Legislative Affairs, Equity and Community Affairs) and for the ASCWU Student Government Leaders in their weekly sessions and board meetings. - Oversee, advise, and support student engagement opportunities, activities, and programs for all students on campus with particular sensitivity and commitment to our increasingly diverse student populations - i.e.: in Student Government, ASCWU-Committees, Club Senate, Student Academic Senate, and Equity and Services Council, Services and Activities Fees Committee. - Support celebrations dedicated to acknowledging all student groups, including the array of end of the year Student Club and Organizations’ Graduation Celebrations in cooperation and collaboration with other university offices, faculty and staff. - Support and encourage student clubs and organizations that serve a diverse array of interests and passions on campus. Provide leadership to assure that the groups serving diverse populations receive appropriate guidance in meeting their goals and objectives. - Oversee and develop holistic training plans for Student Government in the following areas: ASCWU Constitution, bi-laws, club advisor training, university and department policies and procedures. - Oversee and supervise the development and coordination of ASCWU sponsored programs and special projects throughout the year. - Oversee and supervise the transitioning of student governments by providing past history, continuity binders, and briefing books. - Act as a liaison between ASCWU committees and their respected advisors, i.e. Student Union, Recreation, Dining, and Wildcat Shop Advisory Boards and Service & Activities Committee - Oversee the ASCWU administrative office space, daily management, functionality and professionalism. - Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures which minimize departmental and institutional liability and risk. - Oversee, advise, and assist the ASCWU Student Government officers in the development of policies and procedures, which affect their areas, and in regard to oversight of their respective budget areas.
Administration: - Lead, supervise, and manage administrative functions within Student Involvement (Campus Activities), Student Union, Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, University Recreation, Westside Student Life and administrative staff within Student Involvement as they apply to the organization regarding personnel matters, business affairs, office management, program maintenance, student concerns, and meetings. - Develop strategic plans to clearly support the student needs, the Student Success mission and goals, and the university mission and goals. - Assess, evaluate, and support the social, cultural, leadership and student development activities provided through ASCWU Student Government, Campus Activities, and the CWU west-side campuses. - Maintain strong support for university traditional programs through collaborations, services, and advocacy. - Support the retention of students through encouraging student involvement in organizations and supporting student participation in activities outside of the classroom. - Oversee all Student Involvement outcomes assessment, program evaluation, development of student learning outcomes, and personnel evaluations. - Work closely with the Student Funds Financial Manager to develop and maintain financial procedures, forecasts and reports for Student Government, Campus Activities and Westside Student Life. - Oversee, develop, and maintain a staff committed to organizational efficiency and professional management (including hiring, training, and evaluation needs).
Supervision: - Supervise Directors of: Student Union, Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, University Recreation, Westside Student Life and administrative staff within Student Involvement - Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees; - Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. - Conducts formal performance evaluations; Ensures employees have necessary resources; - Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues; - Promotes professional development opportunities; - Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement; - Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community; - Takes corrective action in a timely manner; - Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance; - Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests; - Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results; - Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Leadership, Communications or a related field AND increasingly responsible experience related to Student Life OR a combination of experience and/or education which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Demonstrated experience advising student organizations, including working with diverse populations. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem solving, team building skills and culturally responsive competencies or skills.
Demonstrated experience leading, overseeing, and supervising a diverse and inclusive staff.
Experience in managing multiple budgets that include dedicated revenue sources.
Experience using Internet/email and Microsoft software and/or applicable software in developing correspondence, data, and presentations.
Demonstrated success and experience in Advising Student Organizations in higher education.
Doctorate degree PhD, EdD in Higher Education or related field.
Experience providing advice, counsel, referral, and advisement to students in a diverse campus environment.
Experience with promoting a student-centered and student development philosophy utilizing various student development, learning and retention theories.
Demonstrated experience working with Associated Student Governments in Higher Education.
Demonstrated experience with outcomes assessment and program evaluation in a college and/or university setting.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
