The Student Health Service's (SHS) mission is to provide leadership for the health and well-being of the university community. SHS provides a comprehensive primary care clinic and extensive prevention and health promotion services to students and limited services to faculty and staff. SHS is part of the Division of Student Affairs.
The newly created Oregon State University Survivor's Advocacy Resource Center (SARC) is seeking a full-time Advocacy Specialist. The Advocate will provide confidential and privileged support, assistance and advocacy to members of the University community who have experienced sexual violence, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, sexual harassment and stalking. SARC provides assistance in a trauma informed manner, addressing the complex impact of violence on the person and the community. The Advocate would be collaborating with the university and the community to formulate strategies to best serve the survivor's interest in immediate and long-term resolution of their situation.
The Advocacy Specialist will assist the Associate Director of SARC in efforts to influence campus change by providing leadership in policy, training, and provision of services directed at supporting survivors. This position will also educate the campus community about the vital role that each of us has in ending interpersonal violence and providing survivor centered responses to disclosures of violence.
Master's degree in a relevant field such as social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields
Minimum of 2 years professional experience in sexual violence/interpersonal trauma or counseling related field
Possess or obtain within one year of hire relevant state wide certifications regarding advocacy training
Demonstrated understanding of current best practices in responding to interpersonal trauma and campus-related sexual violence
Strong ability to work effectively within and outside of the university system in developing relationships and programs to address programmatic issues and needs.
Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities
Licensed or license eligible in Oregon in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
Experience in speaking in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.
Experience and competency serving in advocacy or counseling to underserved and traditionally marginalized student groups such as but not limited to LGBTQ, domestic students of color and international students.
