Under general supervision, and in collaboration with other health care professionals, plan, organize, and direct a program of therapeutic activities to facilitate the rehabilitation of mental health patients to their maximum functional level.
Establish and maintain therapeutic and professional relationships and enhance professional skills by participating in education programs. Adhere to professional standards and code of ethics. Participate in department and unit committees and educate/orient new staff to the importance of activities and the daily routine. Behavioral Med: Provide supervision and guidance to Mental Health Techs, Activity Assistants, and students in activities.
Review pertinent assessment and records and orient patients to their daily activity schedule and the importance of participation.
Collaborate with treatment team to develop and document individualized interventions within specified time. Assess patient's progress in treatment plan reviews. Maintain all treatment plan documentation as required.
Use leadership techniques to plan and organize therapeutic groups, and develop programming based on the patient's age and level of functioning. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment overall and specifically in groups by setting limits and providing feedback. Behavioral Med: Utilize CAPE philosophy and techniques.
Record observations, address treatment plan goals, and ensure flow sheets are complete and correct. Complete paperwork with in 24 hours of groups. Maintain required records, reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries as required.
Develop and provide collaborative services, coordinate and integrate intervention plan, and provide patient information to treatment team.
Collaborate with treatment team on unit schedules, and maintain unit daily schedule, as well as start and end on time. Work cooperatively with peers to plan special events.
Maintain equipment and supply inventory, maintain treatment areas in a neat and organized manner, and notify environmental services and engineering when necessary. Instruct others on correct use of equipment and supplies. Maintain outing budget and expense reports.
Rehab Specific: Demonstrate commitment to ongoing education including stroke care, FIM training and seeking out new knowledge through self-study activities and participation in hospital and department in service and educational programs.
As delegated, transport patients in a designated hospital vehicle to and from specific program activities. Ensure compliance with hospital, city, and state rules and regulations including an active driver license and annual driving record.
Perform other duties that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Current certification with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or registry eligible. Registry eligible incumbents must obtain certification within 12 months of employment in this position. Licensed as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (TRS) by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision or eligible to practice under a temporary license granted by the Oklahoma Medical Board. Incumbents with a temporary license must obtain licensure within six months of employment.
Current CPR (Heartsaver).
Must be 21 years of age.
Clinical experience in Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
