TheUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the application hardware used by theacademic, clinical and administrative units of the School of Dentistry. Workingboth independently and on a team, the Systems Administrator is responsible forthe installation, support, and maintenance of servers' storage systems, and/oroperating systems within the School of Dentistry.

Perform operating systemsadministration, development, installation, maintenance, and upgrades for the Schoolof Dentistry. This may include installing/restoring data.
Ensure the security and integrity ofoperating systems to increased efficiency for users, applications, operatingsystems management, etc. Assist in the evaluation of new technologies andproducts. Monitor operations of central computing resources for performanceoptimization.
Provide technical support for clientworkstations and resolve system and program issues for all applicationsutilized by staff, including the upgrade of operating systems to support newapplications.
Assist with upgrades to hardware andsoftware based on existing operations. Make recommendations for upgradinghardware and software resources.
Document day-to-day procedures andprotocols associated with hardware and operating system environments, as wellas review systems in order to monitor and log abnormalities. Providedocumentation to guide operations personnel in the day-to-day functionsassociated with hardware and operating systems environments.
Provide consulting to applicationsand database personnel relative to hardware and operating system environments.
Perform other related duties asassigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in InformationSystems, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering or arelated field.
Experience: One (1) year of experience workingleast one (1) operating systems, such as: Windows, Mac OS, and Unix/Linux(RedHat/Suse/Solaris/AIX/HPUX).
OR: Equivalent of five (5) yearscombination of formal IT systems education/training and IT operating systemsexperience with proficient knowledge of at least one (1) operating systems.
Preferred: Priorexperience working with Windows server software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possess knowledge of multipleinformation technologies that include operating systems, storage systems,servers, and email. Knowledge of enterprise class storage systems usingtechnologies such as iSCSI, SAN, NAS, and vendors such as EMC and Dell. Knowledgeof wired and wireless networking hardware and architectures. Knowledge of Ciscoswitches, Virtual LAN setup and configuration, Virtual Private Networks,routing, IPV4, IPV6, etc. Knowledge and administration skills in VMWare. Skillin the use of system security and OS hardening and authentication protocolssuch as LDAP and Kerberos.
