The Patient Access Services (PAS) department is responsible for the registration, insurance verification, pre-admission and admission, cash collection, and same day/next day bed reservation functions for South Hospital, Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Casey Eye Institute, Multnomah Pavilion Day Surgery, and Center for Health & Healing Day Surgery and Pre-Admission Testing Clinic. PAS is also responsible for registration of patients in the Emergency Department, and bed placement for ED patients and hospital transfers during the overnight hours.
The purpose of this position is to support the Oregon Health & Sciences University mission of providing high quality, compassionate, and respectful health care to our patients. The PAS Manager is responsible for the oversight, leadership, and direction of all staff performing inpatient, daypatient, and observation admissions and registration functions, as well as ED registration and night time bed placement. These functions include creation of same day/next day hospital inpatient & daypatient computer system reservations for all urgent/emergent hospital admissions, positive patient identification, patient pre-registration, point of service registration, bed placement and transfers, patient admissions, and point of service cash collection as well as reconciliation of cash collected.
The PAS manager assures compliance with departmental and OHSU quality and compliance standards, patient confidentiality, and performance expectations. The manager is responsible for directing business processes and managing operations to ensure that internal and external customer service, revenue cycle, and financial goals are met. The manager further interprets CMS bulletins, insurance plan changes, and feedback from Patient Business Services/University Professional Services, to revise PAS policies and processes. The manager is a subject matter and systems expert for problem solving and content in PAS training for staff. The manager represents PAS in systems and quality improvement projects, and works collaboratively with other managers, clinical staff, and directors on patient flow processes. The PAS Manager is responsible for the oversight of the training for staff to assure accurate data collection, continuous quality improvement and keeping the PAS Department Trainer informed of any process changes or updates.
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management, OR
Business Administration, and three years management experience in hospital admissions and registration; OR
Associates degreee in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management OR
Business Administration, and four years management experience in hospital admissions and registraton; OR
Five years of management experience in hospital admissions and registration
3 - 5 years management/supervisory experience in a health care setting
Demonstrated knowledge of health insurance, Medicaid/Medicare, and associated registration, billing, and admissions requirements
Demonstrated effectiveness in personnel management, including hiring, work assignments, performance assessment, counseling, adherence to the terms of bargained contracts, discipline, and dismissal
Must have exceptional leadership and customer service experience and skills
Must be an effective communicator in both oral and written venues and be comfortable addressing performance deficiencies with staff
Must serve as a positive and professional role model.
Must have a demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance at past and present employers
