OVERVIEW: The Information Technology Lead Instructor -New York, NY will report to the Academic Director and will teach the basics of computer applications and computer network support from an existing but evolving curriculum. Emphasis in the classroom is on the students learning from each other and through their own curiosity. The foundation of Year Up’s business model is high expectations and high support. Instructors spend much of their time guiding students in professional behavior, helping them to build confidence, and advising them on choices that will help them reach their goals. Lead Instructors are also expected to coordinate academic team efforts within their academic discipline, facilitating Information Technology specific team meetings, and coaching more junior instructors.
The Information Technology Lead Instructor -New York, NY will also interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruction * Instruct Information Technology courses of approximately 20 students daily, using curriculum that aligns to college-level courses, and includes computer application, hardware and networking * Lead collaborative efforts of instructors within Information Technology, harmonizing curriculum, implementing organization-wide, academic discipline-specific rubrics in classrooms and using data to improve teacher and student performance in the classroom * Hone assessment tools to measure learning and growth of Year Up students and to ensure successful transition of students to corporate internships; make use of these tools to continuously monitor and evaluate Year Up’s performance * Identify key competencies for instruction to meet both college-level course requirements and industry-workplace needs * Other duties as assigned
Leadership * Provide weekly coaching to less experienced instructors in his/her learning community (e.g., observe and debrief on classroom observations, review lesson plans, provide suggestions to improve instructional practice) * Lead bi-weekly academic team meeting for all instructors in same academic discipline (e.g., review grades, student progress, collaborative projects) * Complete no more than 6 peer reviews each L&D phase
Site Team/Learning Community Member * Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students * Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students * Participate in staff meetings and trainings
QUALIFICATIONS: * Master’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science and significant successful teaching experience or Bachelor’s degree and advanced industry certifications with significant relevant teaching experience required * Additional industry standard certifications: A+, MCSE etc. strongly preferred * 6-7 years of experience as an educator required * 5+ years of experience teaching or working with urban youth preferred * Skillful in creating and facilitating high-quality, rigorous, college-level classes * Skillful in using multiple assessments to measure the progress and performance of a diverse student population, and in teaching others to do the same * Experience with curriculum, syllabus development and lesson planning * Interest and demonstrated ability in mentoring instructors * Proven ability to drive the collaborative efforts of instructors in same academic content area * Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills * Demonstrated project management skills * Experience with eLearning, computer-enhanced teaching, and blended learning approaches preferred * Proficiency with various Learning Management Systems (i.e. Schoology, Moodle, Sakai), and virtual and online video tools for teaching and learning (i.e. Second Life, Adobe Connect) preferred * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Personal Finance, Stock, Bonds, Mutual Funds * A passion for working with urban young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up * Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers * Commitment to diversity and inclusion
