The UW Information School (iSchool) has an outstanding opportunity for a Web and Print Designer. This position is responsible for the design and production of communication print materials and responsive website design, from conception to finished product. The Web and Print Designer also designs and visually refreshes the iSchool main website and associated research and/or faculty websites and works with the Web Content Manager and Web Developer to reflect the iSchool and University of Washington brand and optimize user experience. This position works directly with staff and faculty of the iSchool on communication efforts that convey the School's strategic goals and plans, research, and academic programs. The successful candidate will have training and experience as a graphic and web designer, with excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Graphic Design and Media Production
Use understanding of audience to ensure websites and print materials reflect the characteristics consistent with the qualities we want associated with the iSchool brand.
Design and produce print and other visual materials including necessary formatting for reproduction needs of Creative & Communications and outsourced vendors. The Web and Print Designer is expected to demonstrate mastery of the pre-production and production process, including the ability to use appropriate software to handle responsibilities such as color correction and any other skills needed to deliver polished final products across all media.
Utilize a variety of creative design software programs (CS6 for Windows or Mac) including Sketch, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, and Adobe Bridge as well as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Collaborate with the web strategist and development team to assure integrity of the design decisions for the iSchool website and social media properties, including fully responsive website design standards.
Serve as the iSchool photographer for images used on the website or in promotional materials.
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date production schedule.
Maintain and enhance a digital asset management system.
Continual incremental design strategy for refreshes and additions on the iSchool website, including layouts, infographics, photos, and video.
Manage interdepartmental communication within the University and with outsourced agencies to implement/produce communication materials. Travel to local outsourced agencies to attend press checks, examine proofs, and approve final products.
Research various media available to create future productions. Develop awareness of peer institutions' recruiting materials and methods to position the iSchool as a leader in the information school movement.
Attend School meetings and University meetings as needed.
Participate in professional development opportunities to expand knowledge base for the position.

Bachelor's Degree in graphics design, or equivalent art school training AND two years of experience as a Graphic Designer OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Experience with full website design, including responsive design and image management.
Complete understanding of the technical aspects of both web and print design and print production.
Experience with social media property design and integration of visual brand elements.
Ability to shoot photograhs and use them as a key element of all print and website design.
Prior project management experience in design field.
Demonstrated ability using design and production software, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Sketch or another industry standard web design tool.
Experience in all aspects of print production from design to final physical product.
Fluency in MS Office to include Word, Excel, SharePoint and email.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to include the ability to work comfortably and professionally with a diverse population.
Ability to prioritize tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
Five years progressive training and/or experience in graphic and web design.
Experience as the lead or sole designer for a fully responsive website from start to finish.
Previous experience with design in an academic environment.
Experience and/or interest in video production and editing.
