Detailed Job Description
Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Staff Physician provides direct patient care to students and medical support back-up to other health practitioners in the delivery of clinical services and health education. The Student Health Center clinical staff provide comprehensive health services, including primary care, preventative care, and women’s health for the over 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including approximately 1500 deaf or hard of hearing students enrolled in the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, one of RIT’s nine colleges.
Success in this position will require a strong clinician with a deep commitment to and understanding of young adult contemporary healthcare issues, proven experience and skills to work effectively with a diverse population.
Primary responsibilities include:
Provide primary patient care and treatment management. Provide medical back-up and support to other health care practitioners
Participate in wellness and other health promotion programs and activities. Participate in quality improvement, accreditation and other practice management activities
Participate in identifying needs and development/implementation of strategies for professional growth activities and contribute to other processes to promote the general welfare of students; innovation in the delivery of quality clinical services and health education program planning
Participate as a member of Center/Division/University communities focused on health-related initiatives and/or other priorities
Serve as a consultant and/or other resource for the larger campus community regarding public health issues
Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director
Required Minimum Qualifications
Three to five years of primary care
DEA Certification and active New York State License. Board certification in specialty: Family/Internal Medicine
Skills consistent with delivery of high quality primary health care
Have a deep understanding of young adult contemporary healthcare issues and the skills to work effectively with a college-age population, international students, faculty, and staff
Outstanding communications skills, oral, written, and digital including the ability to convey clinical information in accessible terms to diverse audiences
High emotional intelligence and humility and a commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards
Proficiency with electronic medical record applications and office productivity software
Knowledge or experience with HIPPA
ASL or willingness to learn
Required Minimum Education Level
Experience in higher education health care
Knowledge of or experience with FERPA confidentiality practices
Prior experience with PyraMed system
