The Assistant Dean of the College for International Students serves as the main academic support dean for the international undergraduate community and is the liaison for the DOC to the Office of Global Engagement. Additionally, the incumbent serves as the Associate Director of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, where, under supervision of the Director, they coordinate a pipeline program with the goal of increasing the number of students from historically underrepresented groups who pursue careers in the professoriate.Finally, the Assistant Dean provides advising, curriculum development, and academic support as a staff member in the Dean of the College office.
Advanced degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in a humanities or social science discipline. Minimum of three-five years of higher education and/or relevant professional experience.
Experience supporting international students and scholars, including on academic issues and cultural/social adjustment. Familiarity with immigration, visa, and other related government regulations preferred.
Understanding of academic research process and ability to provide guidance to applicants of a national Fellows Program needed.
Proven track record in furthering diversity and inclusion initiatives while supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized backgrounds required.
Demonstrated ability to mobilize others (staff, faculty, students) to achieve shared results.
A strong record of innovation and creative problem solving, including strategic thinking and planning, required.
Exceptionally strong writing and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills required. Aptitude for utilizing technology and effectively managing budgets.
International travel, employment, residence or study experience preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
Proficiency in an additional language preferred.
